1 key onboarding tip for early-stage community engagement

So I don't think this will work for people with established/fast-growing communities, but if you're just starting out, I highly recommend scheduling 1:1 calls with your customers.

This applies if your community is necessary to drive growth/if your community IS the product (not so much necessary if your community is a supplement to your main product).

One reason I'm so engaged in Circle's customer community is because I had to watch an onboarding video (it was between that and scheduling the call). I think it makes the process more "sticky" and helps people realize they've already committed time into a certain community/product, so they might as well keep going.

For me with Soapbox Project (www.soapboxproject.org), I noticed that people who booked calls with me were more likely to make posts, welcome new members, ask questions, etc.

Some of the people whom I had NOT spoken to 1:1 have still not made a post introducing themselves in the past two months - and my community is paid!
