Congrats! 20 years is average but nobody wants to acknowledge that. Think of when all those famous people started, most of them were in their early childhoods. Mad respect to you for keeping the dream alive and having the patience to work on it for such a long time.

Hey Paul, just started reading your book, which made me finally sign up to this website (had been on the to do list for a while) and now I see you in here! Looking forward to the rest of the book. Cheers!

Key takeaways: you can't make a big launch every week. That's just a bonus you get to have every once in a while, so don't obsess/rely on it. Focus on building a quality product.

      Absolutely right!

Many congratulations Jack! Your story so closely matches my own SaaS journey that it is scary. BTW, we are still looking to offer an integration option for Fathom in our customer job boards on our ATS system, to allow our customers to choose their analytics engine of choice. Team is working on it as we speak.

      That sounds amazing!

Such a simple concept, beautifully executed. I'm glad you're seeing so much success!

I'm not so glad it took 20 years to get to overnight success haha

Love the podcast and I'm really impressed with the ease of use of Fathom. One thing I've taken away from following you is that your company should lead with your principles.

It's easy to say that "once we get to milestone X we'll be able to notify users before their annual subscription renews" but I love that's what you start with. I think when you start a business it's very easy to compromise on doing what's right and it's really encouraging when you see successful businesses like yours that practice what they preach.

Great points, Stephen. Principles aren't suddenly different once you reach a milestone. And we always put our users before $. Thanks for the kind words about the podcast, it's always exciting for me to see people say they listen to it.

    Awesome read!

"You’d recognize the names of several of the companies who use us." - Hah, this is always such an awesome way to monitor success - When the companies you respect (hah, or don't), and they start using you.

Yesterday I was selling something online via a marketplace. The guy came to my house, we spoke and made a deal. I'm cautious when I'm buying online, so I checked his name, found his website, and his website uses Fathom. This guy lives 5 minutes away from me, and we're not in a tech hub like San Francisco or Brighton, UK... we're in rural Canada. That, along with companies I've known since I was a kid, has left my mind blown.

"dozens of sign-ups for trials everyday, and see about the same number of folks converting from a free trial to a paid subscription"

@JackEllis24 dozens converting from trial to paid - daily? Do tell how that happens.

Inspiring story that resonates a lot as I try to grow my open source project (https://github.com/mickael-kerjean/filestash). Damn, making a living out of your own open source work is massively hard, kudos for making it real!

We actually put all of our focus into our hosted product. We’re keeping Fathom Lite as a separate, free codebase, so everyone can use privacy-focused analytics. And then our hosted service is actually a codebase in Laravel
