2020 Stand Up: Who's hustling Friday?

What will you accomplish by end of January?

What did you do yesterday to work toward your goal?

What will you do today?

    End of January

Rank for a few juicy keywords on google and pimp up Monitoro's visibility.

    Yesterday

Shipped the first article. You can read it here:
    https://blog.monitoro.xyz/post/190023685811/monitor-website-changes-ifttt

    Today

Figuring out a way to move the blog and the docs to the same domain (back to engineering!)

    1. 1

SEO usually takes a while, how do you plan on getting backlinks etc for your blog posts?

Also are you paying for gitbook?

SEO usually takes a while, how do you plan on getting backlinks etc for your blog posts?

Looking at what people are linking to, make better content than that, reach out to these people.

I know the goal is ambitious, but at the very least by end of Jan my plan is to have set everything in motion, even if the SEO results are not there yet.

Also are you paying for gitbook?

Nope. In fact I'm considering rolling back on using gitbook (and tumblr for the blog) because they're both a nightmare to reverse proxy to put them on a subfolder.

I'm exploring going with ghost as a single platform on which to put the website, the docs and the blog. (ghost because I can't be arsed to deal with PHP, I'm a JS dev)

I just want to provide counter points as we're rarely challenged as founders on our ideas.

Can Ghost do landing pages and docs?

          1. 1

Thanks! It's a valid consideration and it crossed my mind before.

I'm thinking about two dynamics at play:
1- If someone linked to an existing piece of content, then it's possible they want to link another one if it's better. Josh seems to be pissed about keyword ranking, which is a larger category. If they're not linking to content already, they might not want to.

2- Marketing is also about testing about what works and what doesn't (and the different tradeoffs at play), so as a perfect noob in this I am experimenting with this approach open-minded, and if it fails no biggie.
I have some other ideas in mind as well, but they all require some content.
(for example, sharing specialized content in specific communities -subreddits for example- might have a large impact and trigger some organic backlinking)

So yeah, let's cross fingers and see where this approach is taking!

Can Ghost do landing pages and docs?

That's exactly what I'm trying to figure out. If ghost doesn't do the job, I'll look for another solution (hopefully avoiding coding something completely).
With that said, landing pages seem to be possible. Docs too probably, but I need to figure out a good taxonomy structure to manage all of this.
One main constraint here is that I don't want to re-deploy anything to update the blog, so no static site generators for me.

              1. Makes sense I plan to do the same for https://saaspages.xyz/, look for blogs that already link to other resources as they understand the value of sharing content with their audience.

              2. Likewise I got plans for Hacker news, it can drive 40k+ visitors which is crazy.

We plan on adding docs to Versoly, as we need that feature ourselves.

It is still such a pain to get a marketing site up for a SaaS.

Our plans look very much aligned! Good luck Volkan!

Very surprising but also very true.

Sounds like you're on a great track to solve this problem ;)

I am finally continuing with writing of deploymentformakers.com after a longer period of inactivity (due to contract work and other things). I actually took 14 extra days to focus on on it. I hope I can make a serious progress this month and hopefully an early aplha version will be ready.
