I am an experienced product manager, and I coach/mentor new and aspiring product managers (PMs) outside of work.
The main theme of coaching is to help mentees create an impact, get noticed, and grow in their role as a product manager.
The one thing that I strongly believe in and coach about is the importance of communication in the life of a product manager.
I also realise that there are not too many courses or literature that systematically helps new product managers really learn effective communication.
And that is where I got the idea of this toolkit - It is a collection of 20 comprehensive and easy to use templates that will give the users a starting point in all their communication needs.
(Screenshot below shows the different use cases that I plan to include)
Idea: as shared above, the idea was born based on the my perception on the lack of knowledge and resources on the topic. I also sense checked this via a few posts on Reddit, Twitter, etc. And got enough signal that people might find this useful.
Channels: I am creating this toolkit primarily on Notion. But will have templates in Google docs/sheets for users to easily use and customise. I am selling on Gumroad (for now) because it is really easy to get setup in a few minutes.
Content: most of the templates are from real-life experience. Things that I have created and used for over a decade. I will add written and video content to explain each template in detail
Launch announcements: so far I have only announced officially on Twitter (where I have 13k+ followers)
Have shared in a few other smaller groups (WhatsApp groups, slack channels, etc.) Plan to do a few more bigger announcements on LinkedIn, Reddit, HN?
Launch related - make significant progress on creating the toolkit. The goal is to have enough time for me to share with other experts in the area and gather feedback, reviews, etc before going live. In parallel, trying to create of a good (structured) launch plan (channels, copies, images, etc.)
Pre launch Still finding more ways to grow the pre-order sales. I am running out of ideas (almost). I feel going through the bigger channels like PH, Betalist, etc. only makes sense after launch. Also, don't want to do ads yet.
This is the first time I am formally creating a digital asset. Until now, I have been sharing similar knowledge and guidance via blogs/newsletters. But this is different and more structured.
Would love to hear more growth ideas. I am hoping to touch at least $5K pre launch.
TLDR: Launched a pre-order campaign for a toolkit that contains 20 templates for product managers to use in their day to day communication process. Sold about ~$2K worth so far (3 days)
