300+ Subscribers in one month 🎉

In late September I started writing a newsletter called 🌀 Refactoring, about product and engineering leadership.

I am super happy that after little more than a month it was able to cross 300 Subscribers! 🎉

Especially because I don't have a big audience on social media, so it felt like I had to fight for every single subscriber 😅

A small retrospective about where these subscribers come from:

• Linkedin — lots and lots, best channel so far, whenever I post I continue getting engagement after weeks. I have posts written 3 weeks ago that continue getting likes.
• Word of mouth — hard to quantify, about 25 at the beginning, then who knows!
• Indie Hackers — a few tens, amazing conversion rate, you are the best 🙏
• Twitter — really a few, I have only ~350 followers! I estimate subs will overcome my followers this week 🙈
• Reddit — hit or miss, had a couple successful posts, but not much more. I believe another 20-30 people came from there.
• Hacker News — had a post on the front page, but drove only 20 subs or so.
• I also tried some Reddit and Twitter ads: it's hard to have precise attribution, but Twitter ads worked better than Reddit. I am keeping only Twitter at a very little daily budget. It's also useful that some people do not subscribe but become followers on Twitter, which is kind of a good fallback.

Another thing that definitely helped was to move from bi-weekly posts to weekly. It increased engagement and gave me more frequent opportunities of posting something on communities and social media.

I have also written a review here. It says 200 subscribers because it is from one week ago. Then I got +100 in a week 😅

I would like to thank everyone here for always being so supportive. Out of all communities I belong to, Indie Hackers is by far the friendliest and the one where people are the most willing to help each other. I will give back 🙏
