Building next gen invoicing app, #looking-for-cofounder

Hi indie hackers!

I'm looking for a friend who could become my partner to work on exciting projects around 'Make must-do work enjoyable' vision.

I'm building a SaaS web app that makes it super easy to generate complex custom business proposals and invoices. It saves businesses time and brain power + enables faster client communication leading to more sales.

Perhaps this will not be a unicorn but ~16 months into v1.0 I expect it to generate $110K - $140K MRR.

5 quick facts about the project:

  • Scratching my own itch and validated problem with others.
  • MVP, closed beta, and open beta features are fairly defined.
  • Simple but nice UX from the start.
  • Go-to-market strategy is in place.
  • Bootstrapped - no pitching, investors, contests, or other startup porn. Focusing on shipping and growth.

6 quick facts about myself:

  • Core skills: product, marketing, sales, branding, UX.
  • I run a small business supplying tech swag to organizations - binproof.com
  • Always start from 1st principles, stick to modular approaches, and value efforts that generate compound interest.
  • Ready to take responsibility for making hard decisions.
  • At the moment living with my family in Central Asia. Soon moving to Spain > Portugal > Turkey.
  • some more in my bio.

I'm looking for somebody interested in long-term cooperation and who:

  • has high integrity
  • can stay focused
  • is strong in back-end & front-end (or ready to build up front-end skills as we go)
  • has at least 35 hrs per week to work on the project
  • has a positive attitude to life and stays motivated even when things go off track

Here's project workspace I typically start with set up in Notion: https://www.notion.so/indiehacker/Project-Workspace-5355fd9f106d4c92859090d2a3542aa2

This could be a good chance if you've always wanted to build a useful product but couldn't find trustworthy and committed partner to handle non-tech parts.

Sounds like you? Lets chat. Shoot me an email at neilxjett@gmail.com

If you are not looking for a co-founder, please share what essential qualities are important to you if you were looking for one. I'm really interested what people here see as important.

Thank you!

I am not a potential co-founder for you but thought to make a comment here. I am probably one of the most optimistic people you will meet (hey entrepreneurs have to be, right?) but 16 months for 100K MRR is going to be a HUGE challenge unless you already have been doing this for a while and have paying customers that have validated this enough for you. To start from 0-100K MRR, it may take you longer than 16 months if you are bootstrapped. Not trying to be negative but make sure your expectations are setup correctly. If you absolutely kill it, great for you of course.

If you are just starting out on this specific product, then don't worry about 100K MRR in 16 months as your target. Make sure you have a goal of finding enough customers that makes it a viable business first. After that, focus on Growth and higher targets.

In my experience running a boostrapped SAAS, it takes 1-2 years to find enough customers to keep the lights on and possibly start thinking about expanding. Year 3 is generally when you hit the aha moment where you know exactly how to grow this thing further. Or most likely, you shut it down/sell by year 3. Most businesses fail within first 3 years (there is stat somewhere). So make sure you first focus on getting through the initial 3 years by building a product/company that has enough customers.

Thank you for taking the time to write this. You are absolutely right.

Going from 0 - 100K MRR in 16 months would be way too optimistic.

It does take ~3 years and I totally account for that.

I should have expanded on the timing a bit more. I assume there are several stages: MVP > Closed beta > Open beta > V1. Every stage before V1 lasts for 6 - 8 months. So realistically 100K target is somewhere 34 - 40 months from the start.

And surely those are just nice guesses to make πŸ˜‰πŸ¦„

had a quick look at binproof.com - could use some copywriting help. various grammatical errors & things that could be improved upon on the landing page.

That's work in progress, thank you for checking!

Getting all texts in shape is on my todo list. Hopefully I can catch those you found. πŸ™ƒπŸ‘Œ

I'm excited for you Neil! At another time and place I might have even applied. But at the moment I can not commit to a full-time work on a startup. What I would like to do is build MVPs for people like yourself; I'm currently focused on getting more leads for my contracting business.

Thank you Kirill! If you don't mind sharing it with the community here, could you tell what stands in a way of working on your own thing for you?

When I started freelancing some years ago I had few connections and could not find much work, so my runway grew shorter. These days, I'd like to build some savings before I can work on my own thing (I still have to find what that is - and I hope to stumble on a good idea from my freelancing work).

Sounds like a good plan! Good luck to you and I hope to see our #validate-my-product-idea post soon.

Seems like a great opportunity! All the best Neil.

      Thank you.

From your bio I see that you are non-tech who'd like to join some project that's already in the works?..

      1. 1

Yes Neil, I am looking to partner with people and work on projects together and really like the 'Make must-do work enjoyable' concept. I felt that you were looking for a more technical person to complement your skillset so didn't want to volunteer myself. If you are open, I can send you an email with a bit more about myself and we can see if there is something we can do together.

        1. 1

Yes, I think everyone should ask themselves what it is about technology that excites them. Because technology itself is just a shortcut to our aspirations. Unconsciously we gravitate towards ideas and solutions that get us closer to what we value the most. I believe this is how personal visions are born that are scaled into company visions later on.

Yes you are right, today I'm looking for a resourceful technical co-founder. But I'm always open to meeting smart people in general, so feel free to drop me a line!

            cool! Sent u an email.
