Hi there,
I have curated a list of 5 tools that help to understand SaaS users better,
and listed examples in which situations you should use these tools based on how we used them with real customers and users (You don't need each of these tools at every moment, but they are extremely valuable in certain situations and product phases.)
Such tools will help you to:
The list includes tools that are freemium and have a generous usage volume so that you can actually use them without hitting a paywall before you even get value out of them.
Of course, our own tool is on this list as well, as it is in the same space! ;)
The original content is a blog post. However, I will list the 5 tools directly here so you can quickly start if one of them is valuable to you.
If you wanna learn details, e.g. read examples in which situations we use them with real customers, what you need to consider to stay GDPR compliant when using them, and more, then check out the original blog post here: https://prioneer.io/blog/5-invaluable-tools-to-understand-what-your-users-need
The list of tools and a quick summary of how they helped us grow our own SaaS:
hotjar - Watch session recordings and identify which activities your users could not complete when using your web application
(https://www.hotjar.com/)
--> helped us to find things that blocked users from getting started with our product, or points of confusion in the product.
Upvoty - Feature request board for collecting requests, bugs, etc. (https://www.upvoty.com/)
--> helped us to gather and evaluate feedback requests. It is important though that you know which requests to focus on if you have limited resources (see blog post for details).
Prioneer.io - Ranking pain points of users, or features, or what your users care about, so you know what to focus on or what features your users are waiting most for (https://prioneer.io/)
--> helped us to let users rank preferences of what they need; and also to prioritize our activities towards our product goals without over-analyzing
(not a real tool in terms of a SaaS)
The Mom Test - Conversation guidelines, rules, and example questions that you should apply when speaking to users, especially when you try to validate (https://www.momtestbook.com/)
--> helped us always when being in any conversation with customers, not only during research, but also when replying to feature requests. Helps you also to sharpen your mind to avoid making wrong assumptions about your users and what they care about.
Loom - User recording tool (screen and camera in parallel) for users to use on their own, so that they can share feedback in quick 5-minute videos with you (https://www.loom.com/)
--> helped us to let customers and users give us feedback, without the need to set up synchronous video meetings with customers.
How do you like these tools? What alternatives to them do you know & use?
