5 Inspiring Digital Nomadism documentaries to watch

To say the pandemic has impacted industries is an understatement. The travel industry had to completely shut down as an effect of social distancing, lockdowns being observed on a global scale, add to that the fear of the unknown virus. The industry was in complete shock for more than 4-5 months.

Before the pandemic began, the trend of travelling to the places on your bucket list and working from there was gradually catching on. Let’s take examples of people from back home - so many couples, friends and mostly solo travellers renounced their worldly possessions, invested everything in earning irreplaceable experiences when travelling to their desired locations.

Some of these started their social media pages and became a star on the platform overnight! People from around the world could relate to these “nomads”. These are the people who were making their dreams come true and inspiring so many others. Many people followed suit, some while retaining the job. This concept started growing on quite a lot of people. The concept of “working from anywhere”.

In addition to that, a lot of co-working spaces were also on the rise in the country. These trends in a way supported the rising craze of the digital nomadic lifestyle.

And then 2020 happened.

The pandemic hit the travel industry real bad. And these digital nomads had to put a pause on their dreams too. As people joined forces from all over the world to fight this deadly virus and find a cure, 4-5 months went by. Slowly and steadily, places where the curve had flattened, people started resuming their old ways with newer precautions put in place.

By this time, the world that was not ready to believe in “remote work” culture, let alone “work from anywhere” suddenly had to embrace the situation they were forced in. Companies moved on an average of 70 - 90% of their work to remote. This quickly became the new norm.

Though there was a silver lining to it all. People’s believes in family values, personal choices, and their priorities shifted massively. And a lot of these reforms were also reflected in changed policies. Barbados declared its “Barbados Welcome Stamp”(https://www.barbadoswelcomestamp.bb/), which offered people to travel to the island and to work from there for a year. The move was inspired by the effects of COVID-19.

The rise in digital nomadism
