Met with some indie hackers at Stripe today. This question came up: "Isn't it harder to sell one thing for $1000 than to sell 200 things for $5?" Depends on the thing, but generally no.
• Reaching lots of customers requires a lot more cleverness (discovery and effective use of channels) than finding a small handful.
• Next up is convincing the people you find to buy. If you're trying to convince lots of people, you have to rely on text/copy. That's less persuasive than you could be in a real conversation, and also lacks the real-time feedback that teaches you so much.
• Price generally correlates with value. Cheap things tend to not be valuable. Expensive things tend to be valuable. It is harder to get people to care about valueless things.
Next company I start I'll almost definitely have a high price point.
I have experienced more resistance selling my <$100 AutoCAD plugin than with selling my $4k Desktop app. Weird but true.
Counterintuitive for sure, but I don't doubt it for a second. Btw, you should create product pages for your apps, I'd love to read more about them!
