Milestones are an excellent source of motivation.

Milestones are an excellent source of motivation. This week I realized I'm a few dozen subscribers from 3k. Posted on LinkedIn and told a few friends. Now I'm only 7 away!

How did you define your milestones? I like the ideas of creating milestones but then I struggle with what to do when priorities change/challenges along the way and the due date slips. Did you just set up a milestone of 3000 subscribers or did you do a due date as well?

I think you're thinking of milestones as goals. What I meant is that milestones and almost reaching them give me a boost of natural energy. I haven't set up milestones ahead of time. I'll just notice when they appear. Large round numbers that I'm getting close to.

when suddenly close to X,000 Subscribers or X,000 Opens in a week for the first time. It's been exciting for me to see the first time I got over 300 opens within the first hour of sending an email. Then I figured out a couple of ways to entice readers to open within the first hour.

When approaching 2,000 subscribers I included it in the newsletter itself and asked those who enjoy the newsletter to forward it to their colleagues. I got 3 forwards and 12 subscribers within the first day of sending that.

Read the book "Measure what matters". It gives you a pretty good framework (OKR) for creating good milestones. Another one is "Traction" (from the founder of duck-duck-go), really helps you with setting growth milestones and picking tactics to get there.

    That's great!

What have been your tactics for growing your list?

i was doing direct linkedin connections and direct cold email outreach.
then, linkedin Content like CreatorScape: influence.directory/creatorscape
recently got a boost from trading shoutouts with other newsletters.

Oh, good idea about swaps on newsletter shout outs.
