I have had quite a few false starts in the past, and many were for the same reason: I built something that people do not want to use.
I spent months perfecting every small detail before finding out that people did not care.
So I wrote up a small article, on how I now validate my ideas. It includes things like:

How do you make sure people want to buy what you are trying to sell? I'd love to hear what other founders are doing :)
Hey Kakudos, "perfecting every small detail before finding out" is a sentence I'd put on the wall — been there more than once myself. The question I keep asking now: what's the smallest thing that would've told me this in week one, and why am I not doing that instead of polishing?
This resonates a lot.
I recently built an internal tool because I got frustrated with my own process.
The hardest part isn’t engineering.
It’s knowing if anyone actually cares before spending weekends building.
Hi prashant — so true, "knowing if anyone actually cares" is the whole job, and it's completely unglamorous next to building. The cheapest proxy I've found: are they already paying for something worse? People route around real problems with money or hours, and both leave traces you can go find.
