I started my company initially with more than just the goal of making money and succeeding as a business. I wanted to learn to code better, understand the process of building a site and app from scratch, and do something I actually enjoyed.
That worked well for a while and I actually was able to get a decent number of people through the site (~4500) in a couple months, but could not see a quick way to monetize it. As such I shifted directions with the hope of being able to pick it back up at some point. If I was doing this as a side hustle, I would probably have kept going in this direction.
Rather than focus on just the social aspect of cars, I am now more concerned with selling cars fully online as it's much easier to take a % when you facilitate the transaction. The cool thing is that it's actually quite a big problem and currently to sell privately you need a very thorough used car checklist just to make sure you don't miss something.
The alternative is also the dealer route, which most people tend to dislike. Of course Carvana and Shift are big players as well but hopefully there is enough market for everyone.
