Is anyone out there interested in hacking together a startup to help people with financial anxiety, like don’t want to check the mail kind of anxiety? Anyone have an idea for a solution?

I’m trying to gauge how much interest there might be for something like this.

Anxiety and stress comes from not being pro-active and putting things off. IF you could develop a "buddy" system or something that can help with encouragement(light at the end of tunnel thinking ) and a sort of urgency to get your financial stuff out of the way you could have something pretty cool. This could lead to a lot of tools , some abstract some straight forward

After all, money problems are temporary. Lets get you back on track.

I was thinking about it as I know many people who struggle with budgeting and planning their finances because of such anxiety, so they end up not tracking their spending because of it. I guess an app might be a good solution but not the one that is directed to people who want to start tracking their spendings but more towards breaking that wall of 'I don't even want to watch the numbers', thus I'd have to be much less nerdy and nitty-gritty than usual personal finances app.

Have you noticed any problems with the existing apps that do this? Particularly https://www.youneedabudget.com/ ? I've heard quite a lot of good things about it, but haven't personally used it so I'm curious.

You’re right! It’s a feeling of “don’t even want to watch the numbers,” for a lot of people. Financial anxiety is fear of what’s going to happen, not really afraid of what’s happened. It seems like a proactive solution, mirroring the issue would make a lot of sense. It might be a reason most budgeting apps aren’t much help, because they’re trumpeting the last 30 days (3 months, 6 months, year, haha they can show a lot, a lot of different ways), but not necessarily helping light a path for what should be done in the next 14 days or 30 days.

I don't think there's any lack of interest in this field. Do you have some initial thoughts on what (for most people) is the source of financial anxiety?

I'm no expert, no psychologist, but judging by the people who struggle with such anxiety it's oftentimes because of the parents who didn't track their spendings either. Usually, because parents don't have "enough money" they don't share the numbers with their children. Yet, this is often because they don't plan their finances to begin with.

I tend to agree with the other person, in that environment has a lot to do with it. I’m not a scientist, economist or expert in the field in any fashion. I know several people that struggle with this and feel it’s solvable.

It seems natural. It’s a lot to keep spinning for several folks, and for others it’s feeling overwhelmed by the amount of options and input from too many sources touting right and wrong or the new best thing. I’m sure scientifically there are other reasons, but again these are might observations.

I think a thoughtful solution could really help some people and I really enjoy the discussion

I forgot to mention, I think the environmental issues can be helped (not solved, but helped) by the kind of structure a more proactive solution would supply.
