Hi, I'm Jake. Building something up from nothing is such a satisfying version of fun. Especially when there are big levers involved. I'm always looking for new levers that can abstract the complex into simple blocks so they can get put together to make new and even more complex yet elegant structures.

I don't really care what field I get to play with the blocks in but I've yet to find any other field that scales like software so that's where I spend most of my time building nowadays. I also really like hardware, biology, and product.

The last few years I've spent my time working on automating indoor research farms to map the relationship between environmental conditions and crop expression. I got to wear a lot of hats and enjoyed the 'anti-disciplinary' context. Before that I got to play with mind controlled robot arms.

Side projects have always been a favorite hobby of mine but there is something magical about only focusing on one thing and keeping the brain in a single configuration state.

I've recently taken the initiative to invest all of my high-octane brain time into exploring how the digital world can fuse with the physical world in an everyday setting. More so how to extend computation beyond the screen. The big camp for this is IoT but more specifically ubiquitous computing.

I think there is something interesting about connecting IoT triggers to services. IoT sensing is cool and all but actuation is magic. My first embodiment of this pursuit is a simple app that lets you place takeout and delivery orders by pushing a single "button" where the button could just be an in-app press but could also be pushing an internet-connected button stuck to your fridge, issuing voice commands to your home assistant, or even a hacked bat-signal toy that orders nachos when turned on.

The stack I am currently using for Software: React Native, Expo, GCP, Node, Python. For Hardware: Eagle, Fusion360.
