Added search to homepage- does it work?
I'm pleased to say https://www.seriousgamesjobs.com/ now features a search function (progressed to what I'm calling 'beta'), as well as the existing weekly email digest.
The site is designed to serve people with game development skills by showcasing relevant jobs for their skills, beyond entertainment- think VR, 3D Simulation, educational games, etc.
I've previously noticed we do see quite a few people who bounce off the homepage, and I had been wondering if this was because we didn't have an option for 'instant gratification', as the search will hopefully bring.
Now the landing page has both 'sign up for the digest' and 'search now' as actions, I've been wrestling with a question- does it work? Is it too visually complicated? Do you think this will significantly slow signups for the digest?
Indiehackers, what do you think? Would really appreciate your wisdom.
It depends :) What's the business outcome you value? Is it sign ups, advertising a position or game developers finding jobs?
You have more than 3 CTAs above the fold. It's confusing.
I find the search button annoying because I have to click it before entering a search. The smaller buttons next to it make it crowded. I would get rid of them, make an input form with a placeholder instead ("Unity, Unreal, Virtual Reality etc.").
I would delete the search header: "NEW: Serious Games Job Search (Beta!)". I don't think users care that much about new features on your site and experiment with moving the search bar either below the email sign up or in the navbar.

IMO search/index page is what to be shown on the homepage.
