Advice for launching C2C business?

I am about to launch this summer and was wondering if anyone has experienced launching a C2C.

Obviously the networking effect of this business model is a huge pro, but the con being that initial start, how do I get people on at first? Should I try to get slightly higher demand than supply in such an early stage?

I've also thought of creating fake demand at first. So showing that goods are sold out when they never really existed.

I know this is a bit abstract, but just didn't want to reveal too much until I've launched.
