Emailing potential customers? Posting in online communities? Posting on social networks? Buying ads? SEO content? Emailing your current email list?
You may have done this before or thinking about doing this now. Help others learn by sharing your ideas and if you can, rank order them from best to worst.
Thanks!
I'm in the process of doing this now, nothing beats list building before you need the list.
Unless the MVP is for validation, then running ads may just help you identify your messaging and nail down what your offering is.
But I think once you understand the position and audience your targeting it becomes much easier to develop social media content.
If your posting on social media then actively following and messaging on social media is the slow game but it works. When you get an email you should have a set of actions for it, via automation, triggers, etc
@artsmc Yup, that's a great approach. Do you ever use anything other than running ads to find the most effective message and positioning?
ABSOLUTELY
2 things I have a new love for and 1 thing that has always been faithful
1/2 Chatbots- We have gained so much insight on the user just chatting with when it was available, what we did find is that most people won't use the feature but a lot of what I would consider radical users or true fans engage with you and its a chance to confirm some pain points or zoom in on some things you may have missed.
2/2 LinkedIn messaging - Feedback conversation chatting with potential advisors and investors, outside of email its been the single greatest source of feedback
AND THEN
old faithful traditional email exchanges we have added surveys into our signup process just to discover more about the opportunity and who we are targeting and its been great in helping us position the messaging.
I am launching a newsletter this week, here i made a video: https://www.loom.com/share/bd4be528dbb947bd9050a7e94de84678
Awesome, thanks for sharing, @AndrewKamphey. I'm curious if you do any research to decide what to say when you reach out through direct emails or communities?
yes I do research. Never enough. But also I do sometime mess up... have to much hubris and not enough humility... write something really bland and send it. sometimes reddit will kick it off, sometimes HN will ban me.
It's very important to make sure to speak with the audience not just at them. I wish I remembered that more.
Nice discussion @pmmjehan
I usually jump on social media - LinkedIn first because I can find my target audience easily. Other than that, I'd select some curated group or forums.
Published my little project on LinkedIn few days back. Got some interesting statistics to help me move forward.
@felix2777 Thanks for your reply! I like your handy list of VCs and accelerators. After you know where to find your target audience, how do you figure out what to say to them? Do you do any research? Or, use trial and error?
