Ask IH: Anyone here work with EDI?

Does anyone have experience working with EDI for transportation and logistics? I'm trying to understand if this is a viable alternative to a solution I'm building (@Automizzen). It's been hard to get first hand knowledge about EDI, especially the technical details.
