I was just listening to the Startup to Last podcast.
Seth Godin's newsletter came up in the convo. And how one of the hosts used to subscribe, but they basically got to the point where they had soaked up all the marketing wisdom they could handle.
What if you automatically unsubscribe your followers after, say, 3 months?
Willfully cutting out your subscribers seems like a terrible idea, but I'm brainstorming here. If they don't like it, they're gonna unsubscribe anyway. So maybe this is also a reason not to implement this idea.
But the whole assumption is that they DO like your newsletter. It's just that at some point they may be done consuming your content.
Or maybe you WANT them to be done. I used to watch Gary V videos all the time. I remember in one video he talked about how he doesn't want you as a subscriber forever. He wants you to go out and do something, and stop consuming content.
Of course, you'd be upfront about this whole unsubscribe thing, and maybe market it as a good benefit to subscribing. You'd still need an unsubscribe button/link in every email.
Most importantly, you'd give them chances to extend their subscription. So maybe in the last two newsletters of their subscription, you'd give them the option of extending for 1 year.
Thoughts?
What about paid subscriptions?
