Hey Indiehackers I recently launched Dashcam, a screen recorder app with built-in error log capture, on Product Hunt. The idea was to create a user-friendly tool for developers and testers to capture bugs and screen interactions for better debugging.

But here's the thing: the screen recording niche is crowded with established players, some backed by billion-dollar corporations.. remember Loom?!!!.
Let's just say, launching felt a bit like facing a Goliath as a David.
Here's what kept me going: seeing other people support me and telling me to keep going.
building in public
Focus on your gut feeling While existing apps offered screen recording, I identified a gap in developer tools, using screen + error log capturing to create better bug reports.
By integrating this feature, I aimed to streamline the debugging workflow for developers who always complain they can't reproduce bugs
The Indie Advantage: While giants have resources, indies have agility. I could quickly adapt to user feedback and iterate on my app based on their needs. After a WHOLE year, the app was stable enough and feature heavy that I was ready to launch.
But then...the anxiety of launching on PH creeped in.
Building a true Community: I reached out to potential users on relevant forums and developer communities. This early engagement helped me refine the app's features and gauge interest.
The Product Hunt launch was nerve-wracking, but the positive response from the community was incredibly rewarding. It proved that there's always space for innovative ideas, even in crowded markets.
If you're an indiehacker with a great idea, don't be discouraged by the competition. Focus on your unique value proposition, build a community, and be prepared to iterate based on user feedback.
Create your assets, build hype and just friggin' launch.
The most important part in my opinion, is to build the best authentic community around your product that you cab afford to build. Because it takes a lot of effort and time.
Let me know if you ever launched below!
