Best freelancing platform?
How many of you are freelancing on platforms like Upwork, PPH or have tried any before?
I have used Upwork and Guru with decent success. Tried my luck on PPH, Fiverr and Freelancer.com too but didn't manage to win any contract. Also the amount of garbage, spammy jobs on these platforms were more compared to Upwork.
In terms of overall user experience, features, job availability I feel Upwork is the best out there. But it also has a large amount of freelancers so the competition is tough and low balling is prevalent. Despite all these, if you are from a country with relatively low income like South Asia you will have a competitve edge.
In your view what do you think is the best platform to start freelancing?
I am very curious about what other people say because my experience with the platforms you mentioned are the same. I get my jobs mainly through my network and agencies I work for - oh and recently Google Ads.
As I mentioned above, I am from South Asia so for me it is more beneficial to get projects from Upwork rather than personal network and local businesses. Average hourly rate is no more than $3 for a mid level developer like me.
I agree with @agloeckner, but totally understand the market/phase you are in @sagunsh.
Personally I prefer Upwork for general jobs. But, there will be high competition on ALL those platforms.
You might want to look in to more niche sites like https://onsite.io/, https://authenticjobs.com or https://solidgigs.com
Keep using what's working in the short term, but consider how you can pivot to other channels long term. Channels like sales, networking, social, ads, etc. will prove to be better sources of higher more reliable revenue over the long haul.

Upwork is GREAT for the people it's great for. Unfortunately, it's really hard to get started now – especially because now they charge for bids on jobs.
I hear good things about SolidGigs and Flexjobs; both are paid products, but their monthly fee is lower than it would cost to bid on jobs on Upwork.
Personally, all of my freelance work has come from direct relationships.
