Best practices / ways to improve email deliverability?

Thought this group would have the best insights. I've been doing some testing of my MVP with alpha users and ~50% of the emails are landing in spam.

A quick scan of the email shows:

  1. an emoticon in the subject

  2. a username and password field in the body (since I am automatically signing up clients)

  3. a button to the MVP website

  4. a hyperlink to the site (in case folks have trouble with the button)

Oddly, I am using one of the top ESPs for deliverability with an outstanding reputation (won't mention here as I am inquiring with them as well) and my prior low volume, one off emails had no problems.

Any words of wisdom or trailheads would be much appreciated.

Definitely check your DKIM and SPF setup - those are both key to ensuring deliverability.

You might also want to check your email with something like https://www.mail-tester.com/ to see if you're triggering any common spam identifiers.

    Good luck getting it sorted!

Thanks for the great reminder. These were set up and running properly but I have not double checked since expanding my use. Will do for sure. All the best.

What are the recipients' email domains? Are they public email servers or private/company email servers?

      gmail.com / hotmail.com.

I figured out one noob mistake I made; sending from the parent co. email address i.e. ".io" but referencing the website for my app ".tools". Still working on other potential issues. I'll have it fixed soon.

Think about leaving the product's link for the third email. I'm now coaching a SaaS for Amazon agencies. The sequence that's giving us decent conversions is

    1. "quick question, ..."
    2. follow up question
    3. product pitch in 1 sentence, how we can help them, invite them to a call

Need to learn more to craft the outreach for you, DM me more about your product on Twitter.

I appreciate the perspective but the recipients are 20 of my closest colleagues and so there is no issue with them eagerly receiving it as they are all pre-vetted alpha testers. It's not about the sales pitch for these folks.

Ok, thought you're doing cold outreach.
