Bitcoin mining wasn’t on our roadmap...

The last 30 days have been a wild ride. We’ve been building traction, growing fast, and for us it all comes down to one thing: minutes.

With over ~20 billion CI/CD minutes run every year, and we’re determined to grab our share of that pie. So when someone ramped up all our instances — potentially burning through hundreds of thousands of minutes — we thought we’d hit the jackpot.

Well… until GCP flagged it. Turns out they were using CarbonRunner for Bitcoin mining.

Hey ho. On the bright side:

  • It was a great stress test of our infra.
  • We got a taste of what it feels like to scale overnight.
  • And now we’ve got a funny war story for the early days.

The not-so-bright side? Our growth metrics looked insane… until we had to strip them out. Sad times when you’re fundraising and that magical VC "traction 😅.

But that’s startup life. People will push your product in ways you didn’t expect. Some good, some bad. The only thing you can do is keep moving, keep building — and enjoy the stories along the way.

It's always interesting when product roadmaps evolve based on market opportunities or user demand. Bitcoin mining, however, is much more than deploying hardware, it requires careful planning around infrastructure, power efficiency, monitoring, maintenance, and long-term operational reliability.
