Convince someone the life they're living is wrong.
Sound delusional?
It is.
Your product solves someone's problem. If users don't know they have the problem you're solving, you have to convince them.
If you're bootstrapping a new product, you can do it in two ways:
• Launch an expensive marketing campaign
• Convince them the life they're living is wrong
There's a better way.
Find a problem which is well understood but poorly solved. Become obsessed with finding problems to solve.
Talk to customers and iterate on problem statements before writing one line of code.
Focus on the problem to solve - not the solution that solve's it.
Working backward from problems will help you:
• Clearly identify customer needs
• Abandon failed ideas quickly
• Provide market positioning
• Define MVP requirements
• Secure early customers
Focus on finding problems to solve, rather than solutions. Avoid wasting your time and money and build something people want.
Shorter version
Find a problem and solve it. People want that. Don't try and convince them to change their existing habits.
