Building an OCR API for Payment Receipts

I’ve been working on a problem that looks simple at first: getting useful data out of payment receipts.

Payment receipts are often shared as screenshots, scanned images, or PDFs. If that information needs to be added to another system, manually reading each receipt and entering the details becomes repetitive pretty quickly.

That’s why we built the AZAPI Payment Receipt OCR API.

It extracts details such as transaction amount, recipient name, UPI ID, transaction ID, UTR number, payment status, date, and time from supported payment receipts and returns the information in a structured format.

The idea is to make receipt processing easier for developers building fintech, accounting, reconciliation, and payment-related workflows.

We’re still improving the product and would love to hear from other builders:

What kind of payment or financial documents are you currently processing manually?

The use case is clear, but the interesting signal would be where this becomes a must-have rather than a nice OCR utility. Have you seen one workflow—reconciliation, accounting, payments, etc.—where developers are already willing to pay to remove the manual receipt step?
