Building WebAlert Pro: Smarter Notifications, Less Noise 🚀

Hey IH! 👋

I’m Prabal, a developer who’s always tinkering with ideas. Lately, I’ve been hooked on the idea of fixing notifications—not the ones that make you roll your eyes, but ones that get users to engage and businesses to grow.

That’s what got me building WebAlert Pro. 🎉

It’s a platform to help businesses send smarter notifications. The big focus?

  1. When to send (timed for max engagement).
  2. Who to target (automated segmentation).
  3. What works (clear, actionable analytics).
I’m still early in the journey, but the goal is simple: make notifications less annoying and way more useful.

💡 A nice strategy I’ve picked up so far for leads and idea validation:

For lead generation, I’ve been targeting media sites. A lot of them rely on re-engaging readers but aren’t using notifications effectively—or at all. Here’s my approach:

  1. I listed down around 100 media sites in google sheet.
  2. I check their site to see if they’re using notifications with the help of some basic javascript and ChatGPT.
  3. If not, I shoot them a quick email about how WebAlert Pro could boost their engagement and traffic.

It’s a simple strategy, but it’s already sparked some great conversations. Plus, those early chats are pure gold for understanding what people actually need. It’s been a solid reminder that talking to potential users is just as important as building the product.

💡 Why am I sharing this here?
Indie Hackers has been my go-to place for inspiration, and it’s about time I joined the conversation. I’d love to hear your thoughts:

What bugs you about notifications?
What’s one thing you wish they did better?
And if you’ve got tips on finding your first few users, I’m all ears.

Looking forward to learning from everyone and sharing the journey as I go. Let’s build cool things together! 🚀

Cheers,
Prabal
