Working on a site to connect art with art collectors using artificial intelligence (https://www.artwerks.io). Think Tinder for art.
I have a working demo for art collectors that only requires them to pop in an email address (no password, no confirmation required, just put in an email and start using the demo). As of now, there's no real reason to "make" a visitor/collector register. Once I push the next branch they will be able to get all the functionality there is in the product (liking/disliking art and having new art suggest to them, and being able to see what art they have previously liked).
Artists will need to register to upload their art. I say will because I am just about to start on boarding artists, so it's just test art that is in the demo now, but when artists are on boarded and upload art it will be visible in the demo feed.
So, can my demo just be the product?
My worry is that if I make collectors register they will be less likely to use the service because of the added hassle. At the same time, I want to make sure I have legit users. Additionally, I'd like to be able to give artists a little more about "who" likes their work, not just the number of people that like their work. My thought is let demo users see a set amount of art (say 20 views) and then be forced to "register" and confirm their email address (and their likes/dislikes will be added to their account).
Am I over thinking this? Is there a better solution? What am I missing?
Update - I had a realization this morning that I can potentially have the "best of both worlds" - in essence I can send a "confirmation email" without requiring the user to enter a password, then after so many views (say 10?) require them to click on the confirmation link before being able to see more art. This is more lightweight while still ensuring my users are "legitimate." The reality is as of yet there is nothing that they need a password to protect.
This probably seems obvious to many of you, but hopefully to those that didn't it provides some sort of value.
Hi Michael,
I think this is rad - I really like this approach as opposed to the typical landing page. There is no substitute for allowing users to interact with the product. I read that Tik Tok was able to achieve wicked high conversions of demo users to registered users with this approach. I am doing the same thing with my product https://rapidfirefeedback.com/ I'm giving users the ability to cruise through the product as a guest but the majority of the interactions trigger a prompt to download our mobile app and create an account for full access. I think the feedback I have for you is give the user some information on the demo page about what collectors stand to benefit by converting to a registered user beyond viewing more art. You've hinted at it in your post but I didn't catch it on your site. Good luck!
