Can you be a non-tech founder & succeed?

I am a tech founder. I started coding when I was 15 and then I did it full time ever since I was 17. Many times I think the only reason why I have not gone out of business 200 times in the past 23 years is that I am a tech founder and rather focused on my tech skills. But I thought that was a particular skill and not a requirement.

Aren't there a ton of companies that were founded with an idea and hard work, by non-tech founders who just happened to build amazing companies by finding the right people?

Yesterday I was listening to an older video on YouTube featuring investors and founders of Algolia and one of the speakers said that in today's environment there's no way he would invest in a company that had a non-techie founder.

Frankly, I thought one of the biggest problems I had in achieving scale was that I was a techie and more oriented towards product and tech than marketing; that founders with a more business background were favored.

When did the rulebooks change?
