Day 3 of the Stoic New Year Challenge starts a "time diary."
“People are frugal in guarding their personal property; but as soon as it comes to squandering time they are most wasteful of the one thing in which it is right to be stingy.” — Seneca
This is one of my favorite Stoic quotes.
Ironically, my first startup was building social games, and we always talk about how to build products to help people "kill time." The constant notifications from social media are super distracting, a productivity killer. I still don't understand how some of the very successful people I know respond to chat clients almost within seconds anytime I send them messages.
I used Clockify to track time when I was doing billable works for clients. It was a great tool. I even used it when doing remote work, connecting it to Slack via Zapier to provide total transparency and insights into how much time I worked on different tasks.
But I abandoned it when I started working on the same project that took a long time. The overhead seems a bit troublesome.
I resumed using Clockify. As pressure mounts to deliver--the mantra for my year 2022--plus blocking out time for learning and having enough rest, I need to be frugal about every minute I spend.
