Cool products vs useful products
Cool products catch people's attention and make them say WOW.
Useful products save people time/money and add value to their life.
What is your product type? Is it both?
As an indie hacker (or bootstrapper), do you think it's easier to:
- Build a cool product, then make it useful later.
- Build a useful product, then make it cool later.
Or would you do it at the same time?
A cool product might not be useful, but a useful product can be cool. In that situation, I vote for 2). Also making a functional and useful product become a cool one is way more easier than making cool product useful.
As a builder, I lean way too far into (2) -- making things functional, then trying to dress it up later. I would probably be much better served if I were a (1) kind of person, because that's what brings attention/users through the door. :)
