When I was running my first biz (Scribly), I became really passionate about increasing diversity in the founder space.
Growing up, I didn’t really see people like me running their own businesses, so it took me to be well into my adulthood to even think about entrepreneurship as a possible avenue.
I'd always just assumed that I was the type of person who worked for people building cool things, not the person at the helm.
But with the right support structures and encouragement in place, I was able to build a really successful business that transformed my life.
I really feel strongly that we all have it in us to design the life we want to live by creating businesses doing things we love. I think that's why we're on here trying to build new products / ideas / systems.
But the thing is, great ideas live and die by how well consumers connect with them - if your brand sinks, so does your business.
And so here's the catch 22: it's hard to invest in branding until you're established, but hard to get established until you've nailed your brand.
This means that so many great founders never get to take up the space they deserve, and the entrepreneurial space remains dominated by the same 'types' of people.
When I decided I wanted to start another business, this problem was the inspiration that fuelled it.
Brand strategy has been something I've worked on throughout my career. But it seems that only big brands with Coca Cola budgets are spending time and energy on brand strategy.
Founders know how important it is to invest in brand. But expensive and time-consuming agency processes often make this difficult for small teams with limited budgets.
After my experience productising content with Scribly, I decided to focus on productising a branding solution to bring startups back into the game.
Fast forward a few months, and here’s where I’ve got to.
I've just launched my second productised business called Lazy Sundays (hilazysundays.com): a creative service designed to make branding accessible and affordable for businesses of all sizes.
After a lot of workshopping and development, we’ve come up with 2 simple packages to empower founders to launch a truly unique and emotive brand in as little as 3 weeks.
This is more than just a business to me. It feels like a mission.
I believe that every idea, every passion - no matter how big - has the potential to shape someone’s world for the better, whether you want to build the next tech unicorn; craft jewellery for a living; launch a food brand from your kitchen or anything in between.
Lazy Sundays was created to help those ideas live, and to hopefully open the door to new types of founders.
