Hi!
This month I've been working on this project: https://htmltranslate.xyz/
It's a little website which allows you to translate any amount of .html files for free to a wide variety of languages. This helps developers save an enormous amount of time (since they don't have to do it by hand) and offers a much higher quality than google translate (and since it's html files that you're editing, you can further edit it).
Right now it's an MVP. I've put google ads for it to see how it performs and to see if the extra effort of monetizing it would be worth it. The problem is that very little people search for "html file translation" or words related. I mainly think that is because very few know such a thing exist.
Already, a major health facility on Canada has used it to translate some of their pages to french and a few others. Yet it's too little traffic. Right now I have a CPC of 7 cents...
What can I do? Post on reddit? Facebook? Or is it something people are generally not interested in?
Hey Erik, I would suggest you to first identify your targeted audience. What is your ideal customer and how large the market is? Translating html files can be a useful tool to some, but should someone pay to have their html files translated?
(not criticizing, just food for thought 😊)
I would also suggest to leave google ads for a while and focus on where you can find the ideal customer of yours? When you've identified your target audience, then you should search where those people hang out and make easy for them to find and use your product. Subreddits, IH, Twitter can be great channels for you to start with.
Launching on PH and other discovery lists can also serve you well, but ideally you would like to do this after you have established a necessary client base, for you to have testimonials and climb up the PH ladder.
I would be interested to know how you plan on monetizing (if you are planning it) and what features you would ideally add? I would like to stay in touch with your developments. Are you building it also in public?
Hey Kod, this project just really emerged out of this little python script I had done. I was tasked to translate an entire webiste (which was mainly HTML) and I did so with such script. I thought that as it was useful for me it might as well be for other people.
I think this is a project I'll abandon. I talked to some developers and they told me most of the text on webpages is served dynamically (not stored in html files) which I wasn't aware of.
Thank you very much on the tips you gave about the audience base, will definitely put them into use on my next project.
The monetization plan for it was basically that if a user wanted to translate more than a certain amount of characters a day, he would have to pay a monthly fee.

Thanks Erik for providing the contact. We will stay in touch. A good tool that I've used for monetizing previous products and currently engaged with was pricewell.io (really fast, super easy).
I would be interested to know what are you going to work on!
Let's stay in touch.
Have a great day
