After spending months trying dozens of AI directories, I realized most of them had the same problem:
They were optimized for search engines, not for people.
Thousands of AI tools. Endless categories. Little context.
You search for "AI coding assistant" and get 200 nearly identical tools.
So I started building NextWeekAI.
The goal wasn't to create another AI directory.
The goal was to build a place where founders, developers, marketers, and creators could discover genuinely useful AI products without spending hours researching.
What we've built so far:
• Thousands of AI tools and startups
• Category-based discovery
• AI agents section
• Search and filtering
• Regularly updated database
• SEO-first architecture built with Astro, PostgreSQL and Drizzle ORM
One unexpected challenge was keeping the directory useful instead of simply making it bigger.
Adding more tools is easy.
Making discovery easier is much harder.
We're currently focused on improving categorization, search quality, and surfacing emerging AI products before they become mainstream.
Would love feedback from other founders:
When you search for AI tools, what's your biggest frustration?
What's interesting is that you've already identified the hard part.
Adding tools makes the directory bigger.
Making decisions easier makes it more valuable.
Those don't always push the product in the same direction, which is why I'd be curious what tradeoffs start appearing as the database grows.
