Validating an app idea for a niche
Hey guys!
I have an app idea for a small niche and I am thinking about how to test if it is actually worth pursuing. In this particular case I would really like to get feedback and feature ideas first because I am not an expert in this niche.
I think the best way to get potential customers is to join forums and ask for feedback there.
Now, I am split between just stating my idea and asking for feedback or creating a smoke test with some UI screens and then ask for feedback.
I am kind of afraid that the idea could get copied and by showing off an actual "MVP" it would look much more sophisticated and people would maybe also engage more and it would help the pre-launch.
However, the second method would also take much more effort.
What is your opinion about this?
Ideas are cheap, execution is everything. Sharing is the first step in execution 😉
It really depends on how much time and faith do you have in this idea. For my personal experience just stating your idea, mostly on a forum, doesn't really help unless they are tech people and in this case a whitepaper is enough. So my personal advice would be to understand your niche even just with little questions and posts and then start to build a prototipe ship it and then iterate based on feedbacks. I'd join the forums and take time to understand the type of customers and their problems before asking for feedback on whatever idea you have. You want to validate that you should build something before actually doing it, or else you're wasting time and money.
