Dark side (pattern) of UX design

Have you ever been tricked into clicking a button on the popup when you wanted to click the other option?

Yes, we've all been there.

But why does it happen?

  • We know we want to "Delete" yet we click "Cancel".
  • We know we want a free trial, yet we end up entering our payment info.
  • We know we want to make the notification go away, forever, yet we have no choice but to click "Dismiss" or "Remind me in 3 days."

It's because dark patterns are at work. To prevent you from taking your intended action and instead choose what the retailer or the business owner wants you to. Clicks lead to conversions and retention, so they can sell you if they haven't already.
