Today was supposed to be simple.
Just connect my custom domain and move on.
It turned into hours of debugging.
I was trying to set up my domain for my project:
At first, everything looked fine:
Domain verified
DNS records added
CNAME and A records in place
But then things started to break.
The SSL certificate just wouldn’t work.
I kept seeing:
“Certificate pending”
“Certificate error”
No retry option
Website showing SSL mismatch errors
And the worst part?
Everything looked correct.
I went through the same loop multiple times:
Double checked DNS records
Compared with platform docs
Refreshed, removed, re-added domain
Waited for propagation (again and again)
Still nothing.
Eventually, I realized:
Even when DNS looks correct,
it might not be fully propagated or consistent across providers.
That tiny delay can completely break SSL issuance.
I stopped changing things.
Just waited.
And then — suddenly — it worked.
Certificate issued. Domain live.
DNS issues are deceptive
Everything can look right but still be wrong.
SSL depends on timing, not just configuration
You don’t always “fix” it — sometimes you just wait.
Early-stage building is mostly friction
Not strategy. Not growth. Just fixing things.
Because this is what “building in public” actually looks like:
Not launches.
Not growth charts.
Just hours of things not working.
Until they do.
Domain: live ✅
SSL: working ✅
Analytics: tracking users ✅
Small step, but real progress.
Now that the basics are in place:
→ I’ll focus on getting the first real users.
