What's the average conversion rate for a paid online course?
I'm aware this question is far too broad to have one answer, but I'm still asking, as I'm hoping someone who has experience with it can share their thoughts.

This is kind of like, "What's the average temperature for a city?"
Yeah, and I'm perfectly fine with getting answers like: "in north-European cities, the average temperature is 20 degrees celsius in June" ;)
Okay! For my Elixir-learning screencasts, just over 4% of people who have ever created free accounts on the site have become paying members.
I give away a higher % of free content than my competitors and I also charge more for premium than any of them, so this is probably a lower number than theirs would be.
Thanks a lot for the info! That's definitely interesting to hear :)
Boosting/optimizing your conversion rate is important, but there is no meaningful "average" conversion rate across online courses.
I convert about 4% of people who opt in from a landing page to buyers (1 sale for every 25 opt-ins). My top of funnel conversion rate varies widely by traffic source and device (from 5% to 50+%).
(been selling online courses since 2010)
It depends on the price point, a product at a $10 price tag will convert better than the same product at a $100 price tag.
It depends also on the promise of the course and on the traffic source (among other things)
Conversion rate from what to what? :)
Purchases / Unique visits
:)
Ah ok - I doubt you'll find that so useful as a metric.
For example, for the first version of my course I had a conversion rate of about ~20%
But that's because the only unique visits were from my newsletter/Twitter ;)
Thanks for the info! That's at least an impressive conversion rate. What kind of course was it btw?
was for the first (live) version of my SalesForFounders.com course.
Right now I'm hovering at about ~18% conversion rate (from unique visitor to prelaunch subscriber) for the new version. Not pushing it heavily though...
