Do you blog regularly?
by
Sagun Shrestha
Which platform do you use for blogging?
I publish on my own website hosted with GitHub pages. I cross-post on DEV.to and Medium but only after a week or so and I point everything back to my own site with canonical URLs. I saw a huge boost in organic traffic after I set up the canonical URLs, so I definitely recommend doing that.
I've been considering cross-posting to DEV & Medium - thanks for sharing your experience and the canonicalization tip! I've heard that canonicalization ensures search engines won't penalize you for duplicate content, so considering those sites let you set that up, it seems like a no-brainer.
Never posted to dev.to, but plan on it in the future. Does their system have an easy way to cross post? Or do you just manually copy and paste the content?
They have a way to publish by RSS feed which is what I use. If you go to Settings > Extensions > Publishing to DEV Community from RSS, you can add your feed URL.
I know they have an API too but I've never used it.
And with it you can set the time period that your articles will appear on dev? A week after your site has had it?
The RSS feed extension only picks up the new articles so you have to go in and actually publish them. That could be done with the API and a cron though 🤷♂️
Ahh. Still great. Cuts down on some of the work I guess. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the info
I blog on my personal website (https://dsebastien.net), but like to cross-post my articles to different platforms like Medium (https://dsebastien.medium.com), DEV.to (https://dev.to/dsebastien) and HashNode(https://dsebastien.hashnode.dev).
Sometimes, I post articles on Medium post to benefit from a small ROI, before publishing it a week or so later on the other locations. Paywalls are useful in that sense :)
Self-hosted! I blog on www.hugomontenegro.com (am super happy my name was available).
I've also tried publishing on medium, but I got barely 5 views, whereas on my own blog i've gotten 15k views, for the same article. I suppose the medium article just really, really disliked me.
Self hosted blog at ulrichgero where I talk about almost everything but also some personal roadmap.
It's powered by Hugo SSG.
Statamic.com for the bog for sure. It's is a development friendly blog CMS made by Jack McDade. Full CMS to manage your site, it has free and premium community built addons. And you can convert your site into a flat file site with the built in static site generator
My personal site frostbutter.com is built on it.
Yup, on rosie.land, it's custom built, a community and writing platform (as it is right now).
I use Jekyll to generate a static site and Netlify for hosting.
I write almost every week, been doing so for more than 1 year.
Built and hosted on Webflow.

Without my options, I use shopify to write a blog https://www.lelinta.com/blogs/tutorials
Self Hosted Ghost blog. Has everything I need and more, don't see myself switching to anything else.
Fully controlled self-hosted website.
