Building products is fun! Everything starts with an abstract idea that grows into a direction that normally would not be expected, with many problems and tweaks along the way. In this process, it is important not to get lost in the coding and to remember the original problem that sparked the project.
Do not forget to look back and check if you are still on track!
This is what happened to me with WorkoutOS. I struggled to remember my training and progress, so I decided to build a web app that helped with that. During this process, I was enjoying myself too much programming and started adding features that were a bit too far from the main objective: Workout tracking and analytics! I just wanted to know what I did in the past and see different stats to evaluate my progress. Nothing less, nothing more!
When I realize this, I stopped the development, cleaned what was too superficial, and focus on shipping. This mindset change put me incredibly close to a final product and shorten the launch time. After all, I already had the problem I needed in first place.
