Evernote alternative with better tag filtering
Hi everyone,
I have a product idea for a note taking app something like Evernote.
The main difference is the filtering system. The main filtering system for this app would be by "tag" and not "folder".
The best use-case for this app is when you want to save and organize many screenshots of good web design. You basically want to classify with multi category such as color, taste, industry. With that classification, you would search with a combination of queries something like "blue & business-like & software industry".
In my opinion, Evernote is not an ideal solution for this.
Do you think it's worth investing time to build it myself or do you know some existing apps that exactly do that?

Never build a yet another app for just one extra feature.
Since you are speaking about images , think if you are addressing different customer segment that Evernote is not.
Then come up with other features that this segment of customers need for their different use cases.
If you find that these set of features are different and can be uniquely positioned in the customer mind then go build the app.
Then It will sustain for long term.
It doesn't that too long for Evernote to come up with tags and tag based filter option.
Once they do it, your app will be irrelevant immediately.

Yes, I agree that merely having tag filtering system does not differenciate enough from other solutions.
I will try to come up with other features that would appeal to the specific segment of customers (in this case, designers in general)

Sure, I think Evernote is totally the wrong tool for that. But have you tried to look for a better alternative? What do interior designers use? What do regular web designers use? Can't you use Pinterest with hashtags to do the same? Or Pocket or some other bookmarking service?
I suggest you do some deeper research and conduct target group interviews. Do other people have the same problem? How many evernote users face similar issue? How do they solve it now?
If you're planning to build it just for yourself then go for it. If you want to make business out of it, then I would do a bit more research.

I looked for other alternative on web but could not find the right tool. I agree, I needed to do a deeper research.
I think I will talk to the designer community and do some interviews.

The other person also suggested Pinterest. I think that might be an alternative, but I need to turn my head around to work with hash tags.

Or build it as a paid add-on for other file sharing platforms, box.com, onedrive, etc
As an add-on you benefit from the existing customer base and also minimize your source code to the missing additional functionality.
I haven't thought of that but that may be a quicker option.
Also, there seems to be many example of Evernote add-on. I didn't know that.
