I'm building Stylized.ai for e-commerce sellers to create product photos.
Here's what I'm wondering: where in the core user flow should I be adding upsells to sign up? Right now, the modal pops when someone uploads an image, gets to the editor, and tries to download or start over.
I could likely up the conversion #s by showing this modal after they upload an image, right as they land in the editor - does that feel too spammy? Are you getting enough value as a user at this point to understand why you might sign up for this service? It's a free sign up, so there's very little friction.
Your product looks pretty awesome, I feel you should gatewall the entire thing. Or better, experiment, for a few days ask for email at the beginning and then compare which is better.
There is an alternative, you could show a banner in the editor with the same content as the popup. That feels more compelling as popups feel a bit spammy.
We've been hesitant to gate the whole thing because it feels like we need to show people value before they'll agree to sign up, but you're right - we should definitely A/B test this since it's such a big lever!
