Gonna get a bit vulnerable in this post, so stick with me.
I’ve been an “entrepreneur” since 13, selling lemonade in front of an HEB at the behest of my father.
Since then it’s been an inescapable cycle of starting something, seeing some positive response, and then losing focus and motivation with the project.
I’ve recently come to realization is that I’m struggling with this cycle because it’s just me. I’m the one putting everything together, I’m the one marketing, I’m the one connecting with clients and the community.
And at the end of the day, I’m the one losing motivation, and losing the fight against self-doubt and criticism.
I’m reaching the point where it feels pointless to continue this journey without first finding/building the community I need to remain motivated, accountable, and interested.
So here’s my question: how did you move past this stage of utter loneliness and feeling disparaged? How did you find the group of people that make you excited about progression?
I’ve tried local FB groups, I’ve tried searching online for dedicated communities, and nothing seems to do what I need.
Any and all thoughts are appreciated!
Coincidentally, I logged in to Indie Hacker today to post very much the same thing. I will write my rant somewhere else.
For your problem of loneliness and accountability, maybe you can find a bootstrapper buddy instead of finding a community. That would be easier.
In my cohort writing course, that worked quite well. We pinged each other every day, shared progress and helped. Mainly because, we both were committed to taking interest in each other's work.
Hope that helps.
Came here to write down something very similar... it's tough to do this alone, when surrounded by people who do genuinely want to help you out.
could we maybe start a Telegram support group? :D
I started a little indie community to tackle this for myself, I created a couple of rules as part of it to get real commitment:
Some people are shocked when I say this, but really I'm not interested in a big community, it's more about making close friends, which has slowly been working. (These things take time)
We have one at Micro SaaS HQ pretty engaging.
I'm in a similar situation to you now. In the past I found really great communities at co-working spaces. I'm working at a co-working space these days, but the one I'm at doesn't have much of a community.
Here's what you can try, find a Turf which you can book near your house / locality, Now go to FB groups / community asking that you're organizing a game to play so lets come together, no money involved. Let people react and talk. Give them access to your details easily. Once you have some traction in the communication from people book the turf and invite, few will show up and viola you will be building your own community of people who would like to hang out together.
