Finding Longtail Topics from Reddit Threads for SEO

Quick SEO tip for you.

I was doing some keyword research for a community idea I had and it occurred to me that checking for organic search traffic of specific subreddits and what is currently getting traffic could be a really easy way to snag that search traffic from Reddit for your Community Blog.

Subreddits are a great place to find what people in your community niche are talking about. And outranking sub reddit threads is usually pretty easy and most likely means there hasn't been many great articles competiting for that keyword. (I've done the SEO for 37 different community sites primarily driven by UGC so I know)

Here's how I did the research that you can apply to your niche :)

1. Log into Ahrefs.com. If you don't have an account they offer a 7 day trial for 7 bucks.

2. Enter the URL with the Sub-Folder into the "Site Explorer".... For this example I'll use a League of Legends sub-reddit. Enter https://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/ into the Site Explorer and ensure the toggle is set to "path" and not domain. This will grab all pages in this sub folder.

3. Navigate to "Top Pages" this will be found on the left sidebar once you run the Site Explorer.

4. Look at the pages the subreddit is ranking for and get ideas for blog posts that could drive valuable traffic to your community :)
