First production issue

Spikes in usage caused a production issue last week. Although I resolved it rather quickly thanks to being set up with monitoring and alerting, it did make me wonder how solo founders need to be extra cautious with everything they roll out.

I found myself taking much more conservative approaches to certain technical decisions just because there's nobody else to resolve issues when they happen. Under the pressure of shipping fast and early one needs to be extra cautious to not become the bottleneck of their own business before it's even picked up.

Don't neglect testing, monitoring and alerting. Don't overcomplicate things. Make conservative decisions that work well now but may not be performant enough once you scale. Every line of code is a liability.
