As founders, makers and indie hackers, most of us have plenty of thoughts that run through our heads.
If our mind is preoccupied with other things, then it's unlikely that our thinking will be as clear and useful as it could be.
Thoughts are your assets.
While an optimum amount of assets make you rich, there is also the danger of being bogged down by too many thoughts. It is possible to be rich and poor at the same time.
Here is a summary and some additional insights:
Prune thoughts that are outside the scope of focus.
Prune thoughts that are not the most productive.
Prune thoughts that are not helpful to others.
Prune unkind and negative thoughts.
Prune your thoughts in the evening.
Acknowledge the feelings but don't dwell on them.
Allow yourself to experience all the thoughts and feelings that you have.
Take a note of your discomfort.
Do you believe that some thoughts are wrong?
Can you add any value to your thoughts?
What is the basis of this thought? Is it true or false?
Acknowledge the presence of a thought and then let it go.
Remember that your thoughts are not always accurate.
Challenge negative thoughts.
Learn the difference between a real crisis and a false alarm.
Think before you feel.
Don't believe everything you think.
See yourself as a work in progress.
Practice mindfulness, or living in the moment.
Stop comparing yourself to others.
You don't have to be a slave to your thoughts.
It’s important to keep in mind that our minds can be incredibly powerful tools for success but nothing in life is guaranteed.
If you feel like your brain isn’t channeling its full potential, spend some time exploring “self-awareness” through personal experiences and creative imagined exercises.
The results may surprise you.
Takeaway: Pruning one’s thoughts involves looking deeper within ourselves and identifying our fears and desires, as well as understanding what’s right or wrong for us.
