I've recently switched from a free forever plan (limited), to a 7 day free trial that includes all features. I'm still waiting on the results, but was interested to hear if anyone else has had any success/failures doing the same?
It clearly depends on the type of product you have.
If you want your product to have as many users as possible, because it might increase the number of interactions or the amount of content, you can go both ways, but a "free forever" plan might be preferable.
Otherwise, a free trial plan seems to increase the number of paid subscriptions overall (I don't have numbers to support this fact though, so take it with a grain of salt)
In the beginning I thought, yeah let's get as many users on as possible to hopefully help spread the word. Six months later we've had a ton of new users and it may of worked a little, but the free to paid conversion is so low.
In the end, what's the point of spreading the word if no one is upgrading? I'm 2 days in so far, and have had 3 people start the 7 day trial so far - so I think it's a good start!

I also switched from free forever to free trial some months ago one of my products and I've seen a great increase in paid subscriptions.
When you have a free forever plan, many people will do exactly that, use it for free forever. Offering a free trial makes users who really want the product to try and then buy, otherwise they don't bother to waste your time or resources. So it's a good decision in my experience.
Exactly right, maybe I gave them too much value on the free plan - however if I kept lowering the value I gave them, then there would be no point of a free forever plan at all.
Well, I can only hope I have the same end result as you :).
Thanks!
