Hey there! We're trying an experiment with our SaaS accounting software (Beanie). We use it for a bunch of businesses ourselves, but we don't have the bandwidth to offer the type of hand-holding support of your average Sage50 or equivalent, so we're opening it up as freeware.
The good news is we're not going to charge for use of the business management software and the bad news is that support is purely "best effort." We are actively developing the software and have other clients who also use it every day. But we don't have time for phone calls or "please unwedge my sales order in the next five minutes..." emails.
If the system ends up being very popular/successful, we may have to start charging to cover increased hosting costs. If we do, we won't charge people for what they were already getting, for free. In other words, any premium offering will be for features which aren't there today, or for expedited ticket resolution, online support, or same-day bug fixing.
If you're interested in the system, take a look. There's also a comprehensive API so you can glue it directly to your own SaaS product and now the accounting section is taken care of.
Let me know what you think!
PS: At the risk of being accused of pimping the software too much, it also integrates with Shopify for order management. If you have a Shopify store, this is a great way to manage your inventory and purchasing. Just sayin' :)
