If you're an entrepreneur who doesn't have enough resources, like people, time, and money, then the worst thing you can do is attempt to build something big. Instead, the best strategy is to think big and start small.
Starting small allows entrepreneurs to focus on the core of their product or service – what adds value for customers? This approach reduces risk as development costs, and timelines get reduced, allowing for quick iteration and faster changes if needed. It will also enable founders to test their ideas in the market before investing large amounts of resources into a larger project.
Furthermore, starting small provides more agility should unexpected problems arise or new opportunities present themselves. With limited resources, companies can pivot quickly to redefine their scope or enter a new market with minimal effort or cost. As a result, they provide extra flexibility, which can be invaluable in the fast-changing business world.
Finally, starting small helps companies move faster and enter the market sooner than they would have. From there, they can gather customer feedback more quickly and use that information to guide their development decisions. This helps them stay ahead of the competition by responding rapidly to customer needs while informing future product design decisions.
In conclusion: If you don't have enough resources (people, time, money), don't attempt to build something too ambitious immediately! Instead, think big but start small; it's a much safer risk mitigation strategy and provides more agility for pivoting or entering new markets faster than your competition.
What is your opinion on this topic? And if you were starting over, how would you have set your product pace?
"Start small, think big. Don't worry about too many things at once" ~ Steve Jobs
Think big, start small :-)
I fully agree with it
Hi @philvilk and @MicheleTiledesk,
Do you think this is dependant on the industry of the business that decides it? And for some it is necessary to go big from the start?
i think that it's a common approach for the digital business, no matter what the industry is
what about you?
I think given the chance and infinte resources we all would probably go big :D
It would also allow us to move faster! But then again it would probably crash just as fast :P
Haha as a startup I think it would be best to just go slow, reduce the risks and try to manage expectations.
