From Half-Baked Apps to a Real SaaS: My Plan to Finally Stick With One Idea

I’ve realized one of my biggest challenges is that I keep jumping between ideas so quickly that I never stick with one long enough to gain traction. Over the years, I’ve tried plenty of things:

  • An auto shop management app called Motivware
  • Back-and-forth experiments with a bug tracker, a customer support tool, and a CRM
  • FreshCycle, a subscription service selling HVAC filters to homeowners
  • A YouTube channel teaching Cypress testing
  • Attempting to monetize a Twitter/X profile and doing some freelance work (where I actually landed a couple of simple website clients)

Looking back, most of these attempts were half-finished. My early apps felt more like code sandboxes held together with duct tape than real products. What I’ve learned is that I need to commit to one idea and focus on it until it succeeds. I also need to get serious about sales and marketing, because building in a vacuum doesn’t work.

After years of trying without much success, I stepped back and focused on IT certifications to grow my career. But the itch to build something of my own never went away. There’s just something exciting about creating an application that people actually use to solve real problems.

This time, I feel more prepared. I’m building on a solid foundation using a SaaS template Jumpstart Pro, and I’m leveraging AI to turn my ideas into a complete MVP instead of another half-baked project. I’m more confident than ever that this attempt can become a real product.

The biggest difference now is that I’m not just coding. I’m learning how to sell. I’ve started conversations with independent insurance agents, reached out to small web and marketing agencies, and I’m continuing with outreach and discovery. I haven’t nailed down the niche yet, but I’m not overcomplicating things anymore.

Here’s my plan: build a simple CRM for small teams that solves a clear problem and sell it. Nothing more, nothing less.
