Get your first customers on Twitter by showing up everyday - easyyy tips

As an indie developer and entrepreneur, you are leaving money on the table if you are not leveraging social media like Twitter.

Dagobert, Kevon, Arvid Kahl ..all are successfully using Twitter to get attention on their projects and drive them to success.

But to get through the good part, you have to be consistent and show up every day.
I know it can be hard sometimes, so here are some quick categories you can post tweets on especially as an indie hacker -

1. Your niche-specific tips - Do you code in JS? Cool. Post a javascript tip every day. Learning marketing? Share one marketing tip per week. Not only do you learn by writing, but you’ll also make authority and audience in your field.
   Example -

"Marketing tip:

Explain your product like your audience is a five year old.

Not because your audience is a five year old. But because it's better to be clear than clever."

2. Questions to fellow indie hackers - Talk to your community. Be candid. Build with people like you. Start a conversation. Also, questions get engaged pretty often so that’s a plus point.
   Example -

“What is one project you’re most proud of?”

3. Testimonials - Self-promo is hard. But if you won’t share what you built, who will? Make it a target to share at least one testimonial every week. When it’ll come into your audience’s feed regularly, you and your project will be building trust.

Example - Any SS that shares what your customer said :)

4. Memes - Memes work wonders. They make you relatable and human in the online world. You can make programmer memes, developing memes, bootstrapping memes, getting your first customer memes, so on.
   One good strategy is to write all your pain points, then find meme templates (from IG, Reddit, Pinterest) and fit them into it. Use meme generator, kapwing, canva, and you’re done.

5. GM tweets = These are popular on Twitter. The crux is to not overdo them but do them regularly and shout out to a particular group of people.

Examples -
GM to everyone building side hustles even after 9-5.
GM to everyone except people who’re waiting for the time to start.

6. Your journey - All of the above categories are great for everyday consistency. But what will really set you apart is your story, your journey, and your ups and downs. Start with writing one thread per month and slowly increase.

Examples -
“I had 0 customers in 2020 and 19 in 2021. This is a small jump but still a start. Here’s what I did to get my first customers”

“I might seem foolish to work after my job for a side hustle but it’s slowly paying off. Here’s what I plan to do”

“I failed in my first solo project. A list of lessons I learned”

7. Shoutout to your fellow indie hackers - Twitter gets easier when you make friends. Shoutout and compliment an indie hacker crushing on Twitter and his biz. Show others in light. Appreciate them and do it together.

8. One Liner platitudes - These fly off twitter if they hit the correct nerve. Though you need to read some to write good ones.. they work nevertheless :P
   Example - “You’re not an indie hacker if your parents don’t ask you to get a real job”

If you want to save time, sit for 2 hours on weekend, write them all out from notes/thoughts you collect, and schedule.
Only keep your week days for engaging 30 mins.

You can make a category - like - Marketing Tips. Write 30 tweets on marketing tips and schedule them for Monday and Friday.

So, your audience learns your niche, knows your authority and you don't have to worry about consistency anymore.
